Zanzibar is an Island belonging to the United Republic of Tanzania and is lotcated about 30 km from its coastline. The tropical weather is characterized by humid oceanic winds and heavy rains concentrated in March-May and October-December. It is also named “the Island of Giant Turtles” after the big tortoises living here.
Nowadays the Island is a popular destination for relax and natural attractions. Its economy is mainly based on fishing, tourism and handicrafts, in addition to agriculture. The massive production of clove makes it one of the main exporters worldwide. Architecture is characterized by Colonial styles and Arabic influences: the Sultan of Zanzibar left evident signs of his domination, mainly in the buildings. (source: www.paesionline.it)
